Re: Mitsubishi Outlander rear axle
Looks great, wish they had been available last year before I took the diff/reduction box off mine and built an adaptor to connect to the original gearbox. I now have a spare outlander rear motor ready for my next project so I may still be in the market for a pair down the track.

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Perfect thank you. I’m not expecting to get much out of this tired outlander pack so will be looking to upgrade once I have it up and running.

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
Whilst building my HVJB from recycled Outlander parts I noticed that the contactors have tiny + and - signs near the terminals. I believe them to have a built in economiser circuit but is there anything in a contactor that requires polarity to be observed.
Thanks
Chris

Tom, in his latest VCU, puts the inertia switch in the HVIL loop but I don’t know how the VCU handles that input.

Hi Joachim, I’m in the same situation and in the absence of a more enlightened contribution, and after reading responses from Arber and Johu to a similar question, I plan to put the “Oh crap” button in the 12v feed to the DNR switch where I believe it will effectively put the car into neutral ...

Re: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV heater
Probably a very basic question but what does the coolant pump require more than just 12v and ground to run? I can see two signal wires in the loom that go to the VCU but I’m not sure what they do.

Progress has been made! I have ‘harvested’ quite a list of bits from the written off Outlander. If you have the space it seems like a great way to go so here is a list of goodies in no specific order: Battery pack inc CMU’s, contactors, main fuse and service disconnect and lots of bus bar copper ...

Re: Mitsubishi outlander charger and DC:DC
Thanks arber, that’s just what I needed to hear. I can pick up some extra shielding, splice in some extra cable and keep the original connectors. It just seemed such an awkward original arrangement. It all has to be inside orange conduit for the ADR (Australian Design Rules) so no one will ever see ...

Re: Mitsubishi outlander charger and DC:DC
Not quite the charger but the internal charge cable from the j1772 end of a 2014 Outlander. I’m planning to put the socket behind the original fuel filler inlet for my Beetle conversion. Problem is this is about 2m further from the charger than it was in the Outlander and has a somewhat convoluted ...

Re: VW Beetle 1303 conversion
I just picked up a 2014 Outlander PHEV at auction as a ‘Repairable write off’. I am currently harvesting as much as I can before disposing of the rest. Its done 200k km so I won’t bother with the ICE or front motor/generator and i haven’t harvested the heater as my home town is just sub tropical.

Been a while since I updated this build thread but a lot of reading has been done. I would like to say learning but that might be stretching things! So a brief update. I didn’t get that outlander body but I did source a rear motor then found the inner cv joints were made of unobtainium so the beetle ...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
I’m currently harvesting parts from a 2014 Outlander. I’m not conversant with cable sizing practices and it’s hard to measure as the conductors near the crimps are no longer round but here goes:
The main battery/inverter conductors are roughly 8.5mm in one direction and 6.5 in the other and the ...

I wasn’t able to source inner cv joints for my original Outlander to 74 superbug (already has irs) blend so have connected the motor to the beetle gearbox with a diy adaptor plate. I am currently stripping a written off Outlander and will have a spare rear drive unit (with shafts) for my ...

Hi, I’m just down the road near Maleny. I will need a shunt but I’m not sure which suits my project best. Its an Outlander rear motor/inverter in a 74 beetle with Tom’s newVCU and I’m initially hoping to use the original battery pack but I don’t yet know its condition. I will continue to look for a ...

Re: Outlander VCU - Rear inverter, Charger and BMS
I’m in the process of stripping a 2014 outlander that was an insurance write off. It didn’t come with a charge cable and I can’t access the battery pack for at least a week till I can get someone to come and degassing the AC as it flows through the pack. I have no info on its condition and am ...

Hi Jamie,
Just revisited your thread as I have most of a 2014 Outback PHEV sitting in my car port. I already have a rear motor directly mounted to the original gearbox in my ‘74 superbug (its even the same colour as yours!) and plan to use most of the bits from this insurance write off to finish the ...

Re: Outlander rear motor and inverter
Thanks Arber333, I was just wondering if there was a way of getting some charge into the battery as quickly as possible. I have no way of confirming if it is fully discharged or how long it has been that way and it may be some time before I can source a charge cable as Aus is pretty well shut down ...

Re: Outlander rear motor and inverter
I’ve been playing around with fitting an Outlander rear motor into my 74 bug with a Toyota inverter but got bogged down with an inadequate power supply and confusion over FOC tuning and have been waiting for some sort of battery to become available in Aus. Last week I thought I had struck gold. A ...

Re: VW Beetle 1303 conversion
When you buy an Outlander rear motor try to get the driveshafts as well. It seemed almost impossible to get just the inner cv joints that you need to splice onto the Beetle drive shafts. I finished up keeping the 74 superbug gearbox with an adaptor plate and coupler. The gearbox was rebuilt with ...

Aus has been very slow to jump on the ev train so numbers on the road are still very low. Range anxiety has been a huge factor - or maybe they are just such careful drivers!
