Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Hello Team!
Long time no here from. Hope everyone is doing well. I have NOT made any progress on the DC inverter : :cry: . I have spent at least a 1000 dollars on MOSFETS and Diodes trying to Modify a Open Revolt to at least 700 Amps and have failed Miserably. I have been just blowing up MOSFETS ...

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
The inverter igbts are controlled by the intelligent gate drives in the inverter all you need to do to switch them is to pull the appropriate inverter pins to ground, all that’s required to do this is a low side switching most fet/transitor controlled by a pwm pin on the microcontroller, but you ...

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Alright..... I think I'm ready to finish this project......
GE11 did you get your hardware setup and spinning a motor?
I've got my truck moving on a simple arduino right now.... so no current limiting or fancy feedback loop control. I need to do some more testing to be sure im not going to blow ...

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
I just had a thought.... Would the Open ReVolt cougar DC controller logic boards be used for this? I was trying to figure out if they could work for Damien's IGBT DC controller boards, but he ended up using something else. Something tells me that it would just be a matter of interfacing the logic ...

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Hey,
So the electircal interface from the Tens 3.2 board and the Prius inverter is there some sort of electrical buffer or translator or something that goes between the Prius inverter and the Tensy board? Im still moving forward..
thanks

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Hey got another Question:
What Temperature device are you writing to here that needs a PWM signal?
temp_pwm = map (filtered_temp, 0,160, 0, 254);
analogWrite (PWM_6, temp_pwm);

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
So.. Looking at the Map function it looks like each Phase measures from 0 to 400 amps after the Map... When you sum these all up. It seems the Granularity of current measurement will be on the order of multiple amps... correct?

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
No, you don’t need that, I had one and there is code there that is commented out for using one but you don’t need it, basically I was using it as a known value while developing the code to make sure I was getting good data from the built in current sensors
Ahh.. So you are using the Built in ...

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Ok another question...
what does this map function do? I have seen it several places..Why do we need it?
hv_analog = analogRead (HV1);
hv_volts = map (hv_analog, 70,1023, 0, 975);
Then same question for this filter function

Re: Prius Gen2 Inverter DC Motor Controller
Ok But here is where I am confused... Why does it take an active oscillating signal like a PWM signal to drive a Relay or Solenoid coil? Why cant it ne just drive with a straight High or a low?
I guess that whats confusing me..
Sorry for all the questions...and thanks for the help
