Re: EV Conversion using prius gen 2 inverter/transaxle

I can't do much except offer encouragement.

FYI, Johannes is transitioning away from openinverter, and mentioned he'll be stepping back from forum support on inverter-related topics. Not that it was ever something he was expected to do, but, just if you're curious why troubleshooting might become ...

Re: Take over responsilibility for inverter development and support

Reason: I think I've given this topic all I can and I no longer want to deal with blown Tesla inverters especially.

Heh. I remember a few years back Damien throwing up his hands and saying he's out, he's not troubleshooting LDU or SDU hardware again. And you were like "I'll do it!" And now you're ...

I appreciate that you are turning your demented obsession with hardness surgery into a service and "business" (we'll call it that when it makes a profit) for other EVers.

The trick will be getting the people who know they need to buy this, to know that you exist, and that they can buy it from you.

Well you're half way there. Definitely at a dead end for me, I've never run the FOC firmware.

I think this thread is really valuable, because it shows what even someone with moderate electronic knowledge (you built your own power supply) will struggle with when they haven't been with the community ...

Re: EV Conversion using prius gen 2 inverter/transaxle

This sounds to me like normal synchronous motor problems.

That procedure Damien had a video of, where you narrow in on it moving, should get you the result you want. I think. Someone with synchronous experience would be better able to advise you. I'm at a dead end.

Re: EV Conversion using prius gen 2 inverter/transaxle

The pins 11 and 12 receive 12v via a switch to power each pin according to the direction selected. They are not connected directly to 12v. I will have to document this in the wiki.

Aha.

So, had we alternatively continued with my clumsy "Take a photo of every wire you connect" poor-man's ...

Re: Bradley GTE Restoration - 1 of 50, 1980 gull-wing factory EV.

God I love DC.

My Opel GT took me 5 years and had to have a working inverter and brain board to first even find out if the motor worked.

My Bradley GTE took me about 60 seconds to test the motor. My second evening of working on it (mostly just removing 1000 lbs of 29 year old batteries)... wheels ...

Re: EV Conversion using prius gen 2 inverter/transaxle

I think what you want to do procedure-wise, is correct the dirmode to be defaultforward... and then go back through the procedure and see if that changes the results.

So, for example, when you were getting 0v on pins 5, 6, and 7 of the ULN2003, after correcting dirmode, go try that again. Do you ...

First steps...

- Vacuumed it up and wiped it down. Inventoried all the loose bits inside.

- Driver's carpeting is gone. Passenger's carpeting looked perfect, but had zero integrity, disappeared into dust anywhere I touched it with the vacuum. Presumably the backing is gone. It's very 70s, poofy ...

So I did exactly what he said hence why I left dirmode out of it because he didn't mention it, and you said I should keep my own ideas to my self and save them for later.

Yeah. Instructions would be best served with a clean slate and a literal obedience on a test run.

[wasted of time]You probably know this, but the Gen 2 has 1-wire activation. It has other wires to control it a bit, but, you can get it working and doing its normal thing with just one wire.

On the Gen 3... does this thread help?:

If you can't find a good Euro home, I'd take the maybe-working EVBMW Gen3 board (inverter itself too prohibitive to ship to Canada).

Just being that small voice between "these will be put in the garbage" and "they are now in the garbage". Ideally someone wants it as-is and picks it up.

Seeing a square wave is good news. It tells me your scope is functioning, your probe lines aren't broken, you have some correct understanding of how to operate the scope. All good things.
