Retired locksmith (one of several careers) here: the quality of loupes varies greatly, with a selection of Chinesium versions I tested being nearly unusable, and the claimed magnification figures being wildly inaccurate -- as usual. Don't give up on loupes for fine work on the basis of one or two ba...

Anyway, backups are frequently made of the database and file system of this server. So far we're just using 43 GB. Fits on a $5 USB stick if needed. Very high maintenance cost! You don't host pics. Actually, OI does host pics: Attachments. While -- for a large volume of images as I like to use it -...

Johannes has a foccci board working with multiple CCS2 chargers as of today, but the board is not quite (yet) available assembled.

Ricky, I'm sorry that I haven't been able to make significant progress on my RAV4 EV, the twin of yours, due to life events, but it's still in progress.

Re: Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Motor Teardown and maintenance

If the coolant circuit through the 4.5mm hole just blend with the much higher volume out of stator inside the gearbox casing, then maybe this small circuit is unnecessary. It's a reasonable guess that the purpose of that external tube is for air bleeding the circuit (connects to high point of the L...

Re: 1st gen Tesla S OBC charger hacking ?

I wrote that Wiki article -- see the edit history . Any/all bench tests I've outlined are static/non-powered tests (eg. AC input lines resistance to check for open AC input fuse(s).) The HVIL lines can be ignored; the OBC's HVIL circuit resistance is monitored by the Tesla BMS -- to verify that the ...

Unlike the Tesla OBC GEN2, there's no replacement control PCB for the GEN1. You'd be facing a steep uphill battle, and the path/recipe to use a GEN2 OBC is well-trod.

Re: NACS Vehicle inlets

In my case, I bought a used early Model S charge port (info here ), which is the early version without a powered door. The cables are bolt-on so they can be a bit more adaptable than others that have integrated cables, at the trade-off of not being environmentally sealed, and Tesla's cable's termina...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?

That's odd, I had originally just inserted a link. I took a look at this today. The phpBB forum software evaluates any URL we post and postprocesses links to certain sites (like Amazon), to instead embed media rather than the actual link we post. This only occurs if you paste a bare link, without w...

Off the cuff, I am thinking to turn the board on by your favored method(s), and use a time delay off circuit when the trigger is removed. meuhlpower & Bigpie use option B with manual trigger (not (only) KL15). When combined with TDR-OFF, set for perhaps a minute or two, that is what I had in min...

Unfortunately the fuse I used is a protistor pictured above which in a datasheet is described as a ultra-fast acting. I don't find the word "acting" or "fast" in either the Mersen (Ferraz Shamut) datasheet nor that web page's description. I do find the "semiconductor fuse&q...

Re: What is Protistor and what it does?

I'm going to generalize. Fuses protect wiring. Their job is to prevent wiring overheat -> fire. Unless they're special purpose (eg "fast blow", and especially the somewhat misleadingly-named "semiconductor fuse" types, common on old Teslas and my car as well), almost all fuses --...

Re: Toyota RAV4 EV (2012-2014): Add CCS DCFC: Charge Port

The early Tesla Model S charge inlets have a problem with the plastic deadface breaking off the power pins . When it comes off, it can get stuck in the nozzle, it can fall into the bottom of the charge port, or it could run away and never send a postcard. The same problem plagues some of the Model 3...

Re: Inline wire HV disconnects that are IP67+

Unfortunately, not stocked anywhere. I looked extensively for the receptacle (HVSL1000011x050), and the two places that would factory order it quote 8 weeks (OK) and MOQ of (40) (not OK).

I didn't look as hard for the inline plug, HVSL1000061x050.
