Re: Open Inverter Takes on Hot Rod Drag Week
Hey I just saw you on the TV you're famous!! Watching the drag week live stream. Looked like you had an issue making a pass. Hopefully nothing serious and you can get another opportunity. Good luck this week!! Thank you! Updates are here: https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=75030#p75030

Re: Drag Week 2024
Morning of Day 3 update! Yesterday, I ran another personal best, 12.146 @ 112.21. This was after a failed run, not sure if that was caused by a higher SOC or an attempted tune tweak. Today may shed more light on that issue. I have discovered that she likes burnouts. The drive yesterday was tough. It...

Re: Drag Week 2024
Charging at an AC charger right now, so here's an update: I did not get CCS working before leaving. For some reason, the CANBed Arduino I have set up to supply FOCCCI data isn't sending current requests fast enough. Otherwise, it seems to be ok. Separate from that, the car is running well. Had a goo...

Re: QCA7000 Foccci+Clara User thread
I'm moving over to using the CHAdeMO CAN mapping and my existing CHAdeMO board to get data to FOCCCI. One question:
The wiki says SOC is purely informational. Will FOCCCI still work correctly if it is not receiving a SOC message?

Re: QCA7000 Foccci+Clara User thread
If the port has DCFC it will have dedicated PT1000sor something for a thermistor per pin. Do you have a part number or some pictures? Unfortunately I didn't take close up photos of the port or its components before installing in the car, and it's hard to get to now. never want it being pulled out u...

Re: QCA7000 Foccci+Clara User thread
To avoid increasing time pressure before the race, you can omit the temp sensors, lock motor and lock feedback completely. Foccci will be happy. If you have more time, you can find out the characteristic of the temp sensor, and the polarity of the lock motor. Lowest prio is the lock feedback, becau...

Re: QCA7000 Foccci+Clara User thread
Ok, I think I posted this before but now don't see it, so I'll try again. I need some help with a wiring question. I'm wiring up my FOCCCI board to my charge port (Chevy Bolt) and have a few questions regarding matching the Chevy pin descriptions to the FOCCCI descriptions. Here is the pinout of the...

Re: [DRIVING for now] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
Well I haven't been filming or photographing much of the work, as I'm working on such a tight timeline, but this weekend I got the new CCS port fitted and the Bolt charger and DC-DC converter installed and hooked up to HV. I ended up deciding to use the whole Bolt port, including door, and while it ...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
Not much of an update, but I do have a few photos to share (below), and I did get both units mounted in the car. It does look like the part number of the DC-DC converter might need updating, the one I had ordered had the necessary pins blocked off, and it looks like there are a mountain of very clos...

Here my 3 step version https://github.com/jsphuebner/stm32-car/blob/5abc457b399b66740050cc5b117b05b64b17aae5/src/mebbms.cpp#L121 It is based on the highest individual cell voltage though not total pack Thanks, I'm going this much cruder route given my time constraints and what I have on hand. Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
Which signal did you measure then, the command PWM or the return signal on another pin which is also pwn? The duty cycles provide above are what I was sending to the control pin. I was not able to measure the DC Voltage Sense or AC Voltage sense pins. I never tested charger on its own. I always had...

Drag Week 2024
Since we're just over a week out from Drag Week 2024, and I now know the car is together enough that I'm going to make it to the event (barring another major failure), it's time to share info on the event, and that I will be there, trying to survive, once again in Shocking Chevy. Drag Week is a 1000...

Help with a Simple (Hopefully) CCS Charge Curve?
Since FOCCCI requires something else to tell it what current to request from the charge station, and my BMS is not set up to do that, I'm working on a simple board to take the battery voltage (in my case from the ISA shunt, but from the BMS could work too) and then output a current request based on ...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
Alright now I need some help: I'm hoping to control the charger using this board: https://www.longan-labs.cc/1030018.html Which uses this library: https://github.com/Longan-Labs/Arduino_CAN_BUS_MCP2515/tree/master The goal is to take in the battery voltage from my ISA shunt, and the cable charge lim...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
So I played around in Excel for a bit with the data that I collected. Assuming the charger last night was putting out 220V, it looks like the best fit for the data is an exponential curve. Excel says y=0.7125e^4.8935x Playing around to find more round numbers (as I assume that someone had to pick th...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
A few updates: I tested at a 6.4kW public station yesterday and found the following: 50% = 2kW 60% = 2.8kW 70% = 4.7kW 75% = 6.2kW 80% = 7.4kW (yes, the station appeared to provide more than its rated) These power ratings are all from the station's read out. The charger did start to get warm without...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
I will add photos later today - got to transfer them off my phone. I have found that GM seems to change their P/N all the time, but I'll grab the one off my unit when I go out to the shop later today. The 12V connector is the same, the battery connector is the same but with a different key - I belie...

Chevrolet Bolt OBC and DC-DC Reverse Engineering
I have begun work on reverse engineering the Chevrolet Bolt onboard charger and DC-DC converter. These are two separate units, and appear to be closely related to and/or the same as those in the second generation Chevrolet Volt, though the charger is higher power. I came to this idea after seeing th...

Re: Dodge Releases Charger Daytona Detailed Specs
Okay, things like additional drive modes that requires additional effort makes me feel better about it. And I do think some of that cost will be used to cover any increase in warranty claims resulting from the increased stress on the hardware. The Scat Pack also gets better brakes and different sus...

Re: Project demystification - make openinverter.org more accessible
Not sure this says anything different, but here's a quick pass on how I would introduce it: Open Inverter is a community of people and projects focused on open source solutions for EV conversions. Founded in 2008 by Johannes Huebner as an open source inverter control firmware, the project has since ...

Re: [BROKEN AGAIN] 1940 Chevrolet with Tesla Motor
WARNING: DUMB HOT RODDER ALERT Do not read further if sketchy solutions will raise your blood pressure. As discussed in a Tesla section thread, I ended up doing probably my second sketchiest thing yet with the car (second to driving powered by a 2kW generator on the roof) and used one Sport phase i...

Re: Mixing LDU Sport and Base Phases?
I appreciate the response and your thoughts; I'm willing to admit I'm a dumb hot rodder playing with things I don't fully understand (but what hot rodder isn't?). I will say that as of right now it appears to be working. A few questions though, for my understanding; In this case the IGBT phases work...

Re: Dodge Releases Charger Daytona Detailed Specs
Unless the upgrade software has had significant engineering effort expended to get more out of the hardware, but I'd bet it's more like a single line of code to increase the current limit. It does appear that the Scat Pack will have additional drive modes, like Drag, Burnout, and Drift, so there is...
