Cutting new splines onto a driveshaft

Hi,

I'm (still) doing a conversion of an old Fiat 126, now using an Outlander rear motor. I need to connect the outlander rear driveshafts to the Fiat hubs. I could do the old cut and shut job on the driveshafts, but was wondering if anyone has found an engineering place that would take an existing ...

UK acceptable amount of changes to car to avoid IVA

I've read that if you want to avoid the need for an IVA on a UK conversion, you should not make significant changes to the structure/body of the car.
How much is allowable? I'm converting a Fiat 126 and I basically want to drill some holes in the existing suspension mounts ~10mm ish for bolting some ...

Re: Toyota MGR Rear Traction Transaxle

Can anyone tell me the screw thread sizes for the two types of attachment screws on this unit. I measured both but could not work out what sizes. I think the smaller (vertical orientation) are M12 fine, but not 100% sure.

oh cool thanks for that link.
What is 52 p. in GBP approximately? I'm not even sure what currency p is!

Agreed the used parts websites are rubbish. I have a feeling that if a motor breaker advertises their stuff online, then they advertise at massive prices, otherwise they are offline sellers and ...

Re: Where to buy Toyota and Lexus motor and battery cables

@konstantin8818 any chance you could buy one of those wiring looms and post it back to the UK for me? ;-)

I guess I need to go to a scrap yard and find the part myself then - probably cheaper way to get it than ebay. eBay seems to be a bit of a mix. Sometimes you get a bargain, other times there ...

I noticed that post, but for me, it wasn't clear if they are using the inverter to control the motor AS WELL AS using it for a charger?

Sorry, I've not read the full thread here, but does this inverter serve as your motor control AS WELL AS the charger?

Could you use a Prius Gen 3 inverter as an inverter AND charger

Because I'm a tight-wad I'm wondering if it's possible to use the same Gen 3 inverter as a charger and inverter? This could save a fair bit of space, potentially and maybe cut down on cabling etc?

Possible, impossible, clever, stupid?

Where to buy Toyota and Lexus motor and battery cables

<r>I've got Damian's Toyota Prius Gen 3 brain transplant board, an Auris inverter and a Lexus RX450h MGR unit.<br/>
Looking on eBay I see various HV wiring looms available, but the Lexus ones are pretty pricey (seems that price is proportional to original car price, rather than the fact that its a ...

Re: Toyota MGR Transaxle - Alternative Orientations?

Thanks for all the input guys.

Quite a bit of work would be needed to move the suspension mounts in order to allow the MGR to sit far enough forward to fit. That would more or less be a complete suspension redesign... One of my wild ideas was to rip out all the suspension and fabricate a double ...

Re: Toyota MGR Transaxle - Alternative Orientations?

@kevin
Granted a bit of driveshaft angle would be ok- but in this case I think the unit would be about 20cm behind where it should be . Also driveshafts are quite diddy and short, which would worsen the problem.

@sfk thanks for the detailed info - very interesting stuff there. Looking on eBay I don't see Leaf motors below about 700 GBP is that about right, or do I just need to wait for a better deal?

Thanks for the reply @sfk

I heard some people mention about providing cooling to this motor by circulating the oil through a water/oil heat exchanger. Perhaps if some oil pump was added with ...

@Kevin Sharpe - cool - I've been wondering how long it would be before we see a prius-based inverter being used as a charger after watching this https://youtu.be/hkCRddO3Clc but this sounds like you are on about hacking a tesla charger to output a higher voltage? Anyway, I can wait a few months as I ...

Charger for 500V+ battery system?

Hi,

I'm doing a conversion of my Fiat 126 using a Toyota/Lexus MGR unit (from Lexus RX450h). I have a Toyota Yaris inverter and the logic board from Damian Maguire. I also have a 6kWh 290V battery from a Mercedes C350 plugin hybrid.

My plan is to get the thing moving with the single 6kWh battery ...

Re-use Samsung SDI BMS?

Hi guys,

I recently acquired the battery from a Mercedes C350 plug-in hybrid (6.3 kWh / 290V / 22Ah) for my EV conversion (for a Fiat 126) see here https://www.matthewdresser.com/ev/conversion/fiat-126p-introduction .
The pack as-is is too large to fit anywhere in the car, so I am breaking it down ...
