Re: [WIP] Leaf to VW Type 2 Campervan

Sanity check before I get into serious charging / balancing efforts.

In a classic leaf module you have access to both positive and negative terminals. Makes measuring and balancing if necessary pretty straight forward. Nice easy to use m8 bolts to connect with aswell. Unfortunately this no what I ...

Re: [WIP] Leaf to VW Type 2 Campervan

I can't remember if you were planning to use multiple modules in parallel and then connect them in series to build the voltage.
If you have access to the negative terminals on each module or the busbar on each paralleled group of modules, a copper tab you can bolt on soldered to one of these https ...

Re: [WIP] Leaf to VW Type 2 Campervan

Back to the two batteries and a fuse between them, also add a 5 amp fuse on each BMS wire so it doesn't attempt to use the BMS as a current path on wires and circuitry that was designed for a much smaller current flow. The fuse will save the BMS if the mid pack fuse lets go, you are going to have to ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

The idea with the disc brake on the front pulley has a lot of merit, it would be easy to engage/disengage as required.

I was working on the idea that with the transmission in neutral, the ICE would be driving both MG1 and MG2 at a faster speed than the throttle input signal and regen would occur ...

Re: Deleting canbus modules [FINISHED]

I haven't read through to other thread, it started going off track a bit. Which modules are you trying to delete?

The Chinese Canbus systems seem to allow a lot of modules to be simply deleted, but there are a few must have units for them to switch on and not throw error codes resulting in system ...

Re: BMW I3 2019 conversion to VW Kombi 1974

I see you have an early bay window Kombi, the steps at the front doors and the indicators low set give it away.
Are you planning to replace the gearbox with the i3 transaxle and not using the petrol engine?

There is not Thermal interface material used between the modules and refrigerant tubes of the evaporator.

Not even going to touch on your other random idea here, go make a separate topic if you truly want to discuss this.

That was what I was asking, was it coolant or refrigerant liquid/gas ...

Re: Bare minimum to run/start prius II (off grid generator)

Where do you live? The Prius Gen 2 is a bit different depending on the emissions requirements for each country. The Aust fuel tank is a plastic container with an intank pump, the US version has a bladder in it for some reason and appears to cause a number of issues as an example. If you go to the ...

Re: [WIP] Leaf to VW Type 2 Campervan

By my calcs, Leaf motor stack is 100kg (not incl battery) vs 160kg for VW incl 50% full fuel tank, plus all the other gubbins I don’t need.

Then battery on top which is still to be defined but you can see roughly where I’m at if battery is say 300kg -TBC

If I could wave my arms and it just ...

I thought if the battery under the chassis. Reasons not to for me -
1 - I don’t have a decent workshop, so I can’t put the VW up high to work underneath for long periods. Just axel stands and jacks.
2- I know a lot of people do it, but there’s something fundamental worrying to me about daring ...

Re: [WIP] Leaf to VW Type 2 Campervan

Have you looked at mounting the Leaf under floor battery under the Kombi body? I plan to do this with my MG4 to '74 Kombi conversion, but replacing the gearbox as well and putting the MG4 motor in its place and adapting the half shafts to suit.
this will get around the weakness in some of the Kombi ...

Re: Commercial Box truck EV Conversion

I am struggling with a similar conundrum, trying to repower my 10 tonne motorhome using a Lexus L110 electric/transmission driving into the original 4 speed auto with the transmission torque converter locked up and a separate oil pump for the auto transmission, similar to the way the L110 ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

In this case, it doesn't matter if the motorhome can maintain the speed up the hill that it could on the flat, more that it can climb the hill at all, this is where multiple ratios enable the motor to spin faster, won't that reduce the current demand, the motor would be under less load if there is ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

OK, so we have bought the motorhome, step 1 completed. The V10 has poor/no compression in a number of cyls, so it's either fix the engine or swap it out.
In a past life, I worked for a bus company that started swapping out the diesel engine of near twice the capacity for V8 Ford engines and running ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

The aim is to lock the ICE input when driving EV only by locking the ICE motor using the starter gear locked into the flywheel ring gear. That will allow MG1 and MG2 to both provide drive. The idea of putting the auto between the L110 and the actual diff is to allow the auto to take the heavy ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

Sure but having MG1 act as a generator you need to write code for it.

What sort of battery pack are you planning to run?

I was thinking along the lines or using MG1 as the starter, but driving the 2 motors in regen mode with the transmission in neutral, so the V6 is spinning the motors while ...

Re: Using the Lexus GS450h V6 and EV transmission

I see what you are aiming for, theoretically there is no reason it can't be done but why keep the v6 just to be the generator? would it not make more sense to fit in a small 2cylinder for efficency, weight and space reasons? I would guess you will have to do some CAN bus hacking anyway.
