prius gen2 remix
prius gen2 remix
Hi,
I created a remix of the gen2 prius board:
https://github.com/ksmola/PriusG2
I built it around Ampseal connectors and made a 3D printed enclosure for it (I can upload some photos later).
It features the bigger 100pin F103VBT6, mostly because the 64 pin was already out of stock @jlc, however changing it to any F103 is a pretty simple change.
There is an ESP32 on board, which means jlc can build the whole thing (sans connectors)
Next to the tag connect it also has a 10pin cortex debug header for flashing/debugging.
Since I'm not a fan of eagle, all the source files are KiCad 5, 3D printable STLs are included as well. Prints ok without supports.
This was tested with Gen2 inverter, leaf motor and resolver, analog and CAN throttle.

Very nice improvements and it's actually good you didn't stick to eagle. I'm trying to move away from it also.
I do consider making a mini-mainboard based version because then I could just order a couple of 100 mini mainboards and have less risk of running out of stock again.

Excellent work and thank you very much for sharing. I'm seriously annoyed by the Olimex wifi modules so may rip off your ESP32 onboard design.
I'm going to need a hacksaw

BTW, you can use a Wemos D1 ESP8266 just fine in place of the Olimex

Re: prius gen2 remix
I'm not a program person, so would like to know if it's running both Mg1 and Mg2? I am looking for a solution to adding to the Gen2 adapter board I already have integrated in my project. Or will the mini board be enough to run MG1 in parallel?

Re: prius gen2 remix
Only one chip, so only one motor. The mini board lacks all the glue logic of the dedicated Prius board so would need an appropriate adapter board

Re: prius gen2 remix
I forgot to mention, I also charged a battery with this board (110VAC through MG1, charging 100VDC battery) which worked OK.
@johu let me know if you need/want help bringing up the adapter-board with KiCad

Re: prius gen2 remix
Yes, I'm thinking of an adapter board that can take 1 or 2 mini-mainboards https://openinverter.org/shop/index.php ... duct_id=70 to allow running MG2 and MG1 or just one of them. Maybe a jumper link to run both power stages off one mainboard.
And one could have the aux timer (PWM_USER) ored to the boost converter control signal
The interface is two 20 pole 2.54mm pin headers spaced 58.42mm (2.3 inches) apart

Re: prius gen2 remix
That sounds interesting.... I'm about to start calculating weight left for battery modules. Being able to run both motor generators would be optimum.
Re: prius gen2 remix
sounds good @johu, I can look into that. Do you have anything started with eagle already?
Took some pictures of the board today: (have a cutout on the lower case so I can debug/probe the board if necessary)
