I purchased a Fisker Ocean today as I got it for dirt cheap used (5k miles on odometer and paid well under 20k). I plan on starting to look into it for an EV conversion in roughly a year (figured I'd drive it a while first as there's no support). Is there anything I could do now that would potentially help the community at large in terms of working towards opening it up? I have never worked on EVs, but I do have programming knowledge and have a couple decades in IT. I know the old adage of "if you have to ask..." means the chances are I probably don't have the skills currently and need to research more (or wait for others) but wanted to throw the thought out there.
Thanks!

Re: Fisker Ocean
This is cool
Most of us in this community started from a similar place - "I know some stuff but feel way out of place" - and taught ourselves with the help of the community. You're in the right place, welcome!leggievr4 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 12:43 am I have never worked on EVs, but I do have programming knowledge and have a couple decades in IT. As mentioned by Bratitude, do as much CAN logging as possible. There are likely multiple busses, so try to log multiple times in multiple conditions. Keep track of what happened during each log, driving, fast charging, level 2 charging, etc. The bus(ses) serving the HV components should be the priority, but others help as well.
In the course of figuring out where the CAN busses are, you're likely going to spend time figuring out the wiring/pinouts - document as much of that as you can. If any service information exists, see if you can get your hands on it - that will help with wiring, signal flow, and connector part #s.
Those two items (CAN logs and wiring diagram/pinouts) are what all of the reverse engineering work here is based on. The more you have, the easier it will be.
If at first you don't succeed, buy a bigger hammer.

Re: Fisker Ocean
Cool, thanks! I've been in touch with places and individuals (one who worked at Fisker) trying to see if I can get the DBCs but haven't had luck yet. I'll probably start the researching next month and seeing what data comes across. Once I get started I'll throw a thread up in projects and record info there.

Re: Fisker Ocean
Soo, as maybe some of you saw on facebook second life group, there was a big tender to purchase 2000 or 2GWh CATL fiskar battery packs.
This tender was won by a big german 2nd life battery company. I guess they are going to be the ones that can help you to decode
