If there was an EV specific drag racing event (likely 1 day only) somewhere in the Carolinas, would you attend? Would you bring a car to compete?
I currently have a stockish Mini SE. You can find me at autocross events. I'd get smoked on a drag strip.

What if there was a class for low power and/or front wheel drive EVs? So you'd run against Leafs and Bolts, not Teslas and Lucids?

Is there such a thing as EV bracket racing?

That is a good question, with a complicated answer. To be brief and not hijack my own thread:
  • The National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) created classes, rules, and recording keeping 25 years ago. Their safety rules were adopted by NHRA/IHRA/Loring Timing Assoc. but NHRA has recently re-written their safety rules.
  • NHRA has an EV specific class, but since it falls under their "Street Legal" program, it is only for recent production cars.
  • All EVs can compete in NHRA/IHRA/WDRA Sportsman bracket racing series, essentially the points series at your local track.
So are there venues for running EVs in bracket races? Yes.
Are there currently classes in any race series that have pre-set indexes for EVs like NHRA Stock and Super Stock? No.
Are NEDRA's class divisions at all relevant today? In my opinion, No.

I've talked with a few friends and acquaintances about setting up some sort of EV gathering/race if there was enough interest. My thought is that to create such an event would require new heads-up classes that make more sense than NEDRAs and could better accommodate modern conversions and production EVs, or just running it like a traditional non-class bracket race where drivers select their own dial-in.

California, Ventura/Santa Barbara area. In the thick of things with my conversion project, lots of question to the ones who had done it and see their finished projects.
