New to this forum and unsure if this topic has been discussed previously.

I just bought an old Nissan leaf gen 2. With a 50% SOH battery. And have been all over the interwebs reading up on what people are doing to fix the battery issues. I had half a mind in trying cells out of China and repacking it. But came across a website that discussed reconditioning the cells.

Now I am no expert on batteries and am wondering if this is in fact possible? And how?

I don't think the cells themselves can be revived there are destructive processes happening inside the cells that damage them over time. If they would be possible to revive everybody would be doing it and battery prices would be low.
Most likely what is meant by reconditioning a battery pack is removing weak cells out and replacing them with stronger cells. Because cells can age differently some cells may become weaker before the others and your battery pack is as strong as its weakest cell.

I think you are right. I can't really see any other way of doing it. It's not like lead acid that you can recover.

I might attempt this with my leaf to see what can be improved. Plan on taking the battery appart, and replacing weak and dead cells. Even grouping the cells by standing voltages might make a slight improvement.
