Hello!

I am planning to convert a 2005 Nissan X-Trail with a failed engine to electric. I am planning a Leaf gen 1 engine(EM57), with Orion BMS and about 60-70 kw Model 3 batteries.

My question is: can the openinverter board boost some performance? I heard that the weakest link in the leaf drivetrain were the batteries, then the inverter, then the motor. I got the batteries part covered, the motor s'got the uumph as long as I keep it cooled well, all that is left is the inverter.

I would like to have around 120KW performance. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cadi :)

your weakest link info corresponds with my findings.
Currently the openinverter sync motor control is still under development but has come along quite far.

Nissan are taking back torque above 2900rpm even though there would be enough voltage to keep going at full torque till approximately 4500rpm, possibly more. Doing just this would result 120kW without putting extra strain on the inverter.

You can possibly raise torque a little by being less conservative but that will certainly put more load on the inverter and I don't know how far you could take this.
