Gauge Options for Resolve EV Controller

Hey everyone, just starting my build with a drivetrain from a 2014 Nissan Leaf and the Resolve Controller. While I'm working on the hardware (custom chassis) I'm looking into making a custom gauge cluster. Now I know that the Resolve controller comes with a small i2c oled type display, but I'd like something larger that can be placed further from the controller. The only commercial option seems to be the SpeedHut gauges, but they seem uneccessarily spendy.
I think this should be possible using an arduino and a CAN bus breakout board, and I'm somewhat surprised that there isn't a DIY version of the SpeedHut gauges out there yet. I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious, so maybe someone who has experience with this could chime in with some tips and tricks.
How do most people who use the Resolve controller set up their gauges? Does everyone use the stock Leaf gauge cluster/screen or do you guys run without a speedometer?
Thanks,
kk
