Hello,

second of these, I explain battery balancing for you with a few animations, and go into some edge cases too.

By the end of it you should have a grasp of:
  • Why bother with battery balancing?
  • What is battery balancing?
  • What happens if you have a weak cell in your battery pack?
  • What is Active Cell Balancing?
  • What is Passive Balancing?

Let me know what you think, feedback much appreciated. I am currently making one about the C-Rate and have got two more queued up. The goal is to explain just one concept each in about 4-10mins, and not tied to a product or device, but explain the underlying knowledge in an engaging way.

I hope this helps.

That was great. I think the videos you make should get links added in the wiki as you go.

That flying capacitor thing is very cool, I had no idea that was a means of active balancing.

Where would a shunt feature fall into this mix? I believe the concept is that during charging some current is bypassed around a high cell, but not sure.

Shunt is just a resistor across the cells. So that would be passive balancing.

This is great that's coming up. Thats exactly what I thought about BMS for a while. It took me ages to understand how simple they really are!

Thanks everyone, next videos are already in the pipeline :)
