I've been thinking about buying an electric vehicle for years, but buying from a dealer is the easiest way.
My idea is to buy the cheapest Leaf on the market and build a new, larger battery. This is where I have questions:
- Are there BMSs for the Leaf that allow you to install LFP cells? Or can the original BMS be "reprogrammed"?
- I know about upgrading from 24 kW to 30 or 40 kW, but it's expensive.

I have knowledge of solar batteries and I work with electric commercial vehicles; my weakness is programming.

As far as I am aware the leaf BMS is tightly integrated to the overall operation of the vehicle. I think the only way you would be able to pull this off would be to purchase leaf replacement modules from a place like Alibaba and swapping out the old modules with the new ones, retaining the original BMS.

This would be far simpler and cheaper than ripping out all the control electronics of the vehicle and replacing them with a controller that can use a different BMS

This has been covered. The bms can be reprogrammed now, cell upgrades are possible, lfp won’t really work.

In Ukraine my friend make custom software for leaf bms, and it coast cheaper then china-russion solution.

Hi, at this moment we are working on a Leaf battery emulator BMS that works with Peugeot (Stelantis) modules, in this case 17 instead of 18 modules.
The first tests on our test bench are very positive, the Leaf motor stack runs. For this test we used the Resolve EV controller, however, I have no doubt that it will also work on the Zombieverter a or even a Nissan Leaf. Further tests are needed to confirm this.
