Top Tip: Three keys to a successful EV conversion are:
  • Networking
  • Networking

these high voltage AC motor wires really do not have to be cut and with the right amount of WD-40 and handrolics they eventually do come right out

That doesn't look like networking. That looks like Artur doing the work for you while you hold the camera and distract him!

Greg,

I thoroughly enjoyed the video, you have a way of making these topics accessible to us common folk. I have my fingers crossed that you do a tear down video of the gen 4 inverter.

Thanks Peter

Brilliant video, appreciate the "deep dive". Could you maybe add some subtitles/closed captions for the segment without audio? It felt important, at least at the time. Or add something to the description instead if that's easier?

Do you think you could hide a Zombie in there?
Or maybe just a bunch of relays and fuses for new conversion related circuits like EPS and brake pump etc.?

i do not recommend gutting the dc-dc as you loose an important spot value invudc aka inverter voltage reading

That's because the MTH data is being interpreted incorrectly. The "dc_bus_voltage", currently treated as the drive voltage, actually represents the DC-DC voltage (288V), while the inverter voltage (650V) is stored in the adjacent bytes.

I have a question arising from this teardown:
As we're putting the battery connection directly into the inverter on the terminals behind the plastic cover, doesn't the existence of those thin busbars mean that the battery voltage is also applied to the DC-DC?
I thought, applying battery voltage there would blow the unit. Are we deleting the busbars or leaving them in?
Thanks.

Ok. Just rewatched Damien's connection video again (must be 4 times now but it's like a good movie; you notice things you didn't get from the last watch every time).
I see now that the busbars remain in place and they're not a direct parallel connection to the boost converter input.
