what charger do you recommend?

I purchased a chevy volt pack for use in a 450h conversion. I realize the pack has a small capacity, but I plan on getting a second pack to help with range.

My question is, what charger do you recommend? It's possible that I can get a hold of the charger from the Volt, but I wanted to get your recommendations. A friend who has converted a vehicle has recommended a Tesla gen 2 charger, but, again, I wanted your thoughts. There are a lot of chargers out there, so what could give me the best bang for buck

Thanks!

Well that depends on a few things…

Desired level 2 charging speed for one…

The Tesla gen2 charger is a 10kW charger
Model 3 pcs is a 7kW charger +dcdc
Volt is a 6.6kWh (?) or 3.3kW
Outlander is 3.3kW charger + dcdc
Some of the MG units has v2g, which Damien is working on.

also cost, size and availability
Not to mention the control methods

kW. Not kWh.

Depends on the BMS you're using too, what kind of charger can it communicate with?

Gen 1 Volt had only 3.3kW, Gen 2 had 3.3kW and then a later 7kW, related to the Bolt.

Gen1 Volt is CAN controlled and built by Lear. Gen 2 is PWM controlled.

I personally like the Bolt charger. Fairly compact, controlled with PWM, not terribly expensive. Works well right now for my 2x Volt Gen2 packs in parallel. The only challenge is that we're still formalizing control for it. Right now I have an el-cheapo PWM generator I manual adjust for the station, and just monitor to turn off. Hopefully I can get my Arduino control for it to work some time soon.
