Question BMW E46 EV conversion

Hello,

I'm looking into doing a EV conversion with probably a BMW E46 and was wondering what would be my best choice for a drivetrain? I'm doubting between using a Nissan Leaf EM57 motor or maybe using a GS 450H transmission. The battery pack I'm trying to get my hands on would be around 350 volt nominal. Would this be enough for the GS 450H?

Thanks in advance

Luuk

That should be fine for the GS450h drivetrain.
If you combine the Leaf / Grey Goose CAN code with the control code for the GS450h inverter, you'll be good to go. I'm sure that'll be plenty fun to drive.

The GS450H is a much easier installation without the need for a spline coupler or adaptor plate. With the GS450H you're just swapping one gearbox for another which takes a few hours 8-)

That would be fine. A lot of BEXUS driving was done at 230V :)

Thank you for the response. Does anybody happen to know if using the GS 450H transmission would be allowed for a conversion in the Netherlands?

iirc in The Netherlands you must used certified kits of components if you want to avoid putting the whole vehicle through testing including EMC, etc.

It does not matter if this is a GS450H, Leaf Motor, or Tesla DU.

One of my colleagues from New Electric will update the OI wiki at some point (here) but for now you can read a little more on the website (here).

Anne Kloppenborg from New Electric has provided an update on certification in The Netherlands 8-)
