BMW hybrid battery group buy
As there’s been some interest in the BMW hybrid batteries for them being full voltage in small capacity increments and supposedly capable of high currents and priced reasonably there is an opportunity to group together to purchase these batteries in large quantities with possibly for about 50EUR-ish per kWh which seems too good to be true, right?
The catch of course is that we’d need to think in containers here.
So I’ll start this thread to get a sense for the interest.
As per https://twitter.com/newelectricirl/stat ... 86626?s=21
Kevin has kindly offered to facilitate contacts once we have momentum/commitments enough to be taken series by the wholesalers.
I’ll start by committing to at least 100kWh (but probably more) at that price.
So assuming that each module is about 1,5kWh the current count is as follows (rounded to the nearest multiple of 6 to achieve full voltage)

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Interesting. These are what I'm planning to use but I'm hoping to keep them in the original 330e box, though sounds like cooling might be complex based on Damien's latest video. Might be up for 20kwh if it turns out not to fit - I'll find out tomorrow. Will also depend on the timeline - aiming to get bulk of project done this summer.

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Would this include the BMS modules, and would shipping cost to my location be reasonable?
If so, I'd commit to 6 or 12 modules, which I think is 9.1 or 18.3kWh. Of course depending on when this would happen, as at some point I'll source them myself.

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Very interested here but not after many modules as I'm doing an HEV retrofit rather than a straight EV.
Although I have been looking at Tesla SDUs and if one would fit in the back of my E39 touring
Too many started and not finished projects in the way though.

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
I'd happily go for 6 modules at that price (i.e. just shy of 10kWh)

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Will these modules come as assembled packs? As having them as seperate items can mean they can get mixed up.
two issues with that:
-Degredation, you want them to be as identical as possible
-Can bus Ids for the slaves are fixed in the pack upto 6 Ids I believe so if you have overlapping you need to reassign the IDs somehow.
Also keep in mind that monitoring parallel groups is something not to be taken lightly.

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
This here is to gauge interest, as there seems to be an opportunity for deep discounts.
Once there is enough interest the details can be worked out but in general I would expect the seller doing as little work as they can i.e. packs won't be dismantled before delivery.

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
I can commit to minimum 12 or possibly 24 if it's at (or very near to) 50EUR per kwh

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Great idea. I can commit to 18 modules now and possibly more depending on lead time and cash flow. Thanks
Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Could you please the part number so that I can lookup the dimensions.
Cheers

I am happy to 3D scan and model them once I get my hands on one...
@jnsaff What are the timelines on this? Is there a certain quantity we're looking for before talking to the wholesalers?

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
Also can you confirm if you are aiming for the Gen3 (26Ah/351V) or the Gen4 (34Ah/355V) as seen here? I think they moved to Gen4 in the second half of 2018
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g11- ... 1VnZ8phPwk
Dimensionally the same and only a tiny weight penalty - I'd be definitely after the Gen4 given the option...

Re: BMW hybrid battery group buy
I would be interested in buying 24 modules as long as they are in homogenous 96S configs. Also 50€ per kW price is very very good. I want them!
Can we get the BMS cables with the cells too? Or is the complete pack with casing on the table? In that case i really think its almost too good to be true...
Ok, then where from would that battery be shipped to my address? Is it UK or Germany?
