speed control

Post by john »

Hi, I am still trying to find suitable means of speed control for my Ford model T, I have the motor now, it is an Agni 8.5 kw DC brushed 48 volt motor, I have looked at various PWM's but each time I find something suitable and affordable, there is some sort of problem relating to it which stops me buying it, I do not want to waste money on something that may not work, so I am now looking seriously at using a 4 way switch which sold as a 3 gear switch and is applied to boats and I know some have been used on motor cycles, I wondered if any one on here have had experience of this, it is certainly a cheap way of speed control and should not be prone to failure on the basis that it is very simple and hard wired, any thoughts ?

in fact, my main concern of this method is that there will be a major difference in battery duty/ discharge and wonder if these various states of discharge can still be manged by one 48 volt charger
