Maximum voltage Tesla SDU and gen2 DC-DC

Post by Jelle IV »

Hi all,

Could someone tell me what the maximum voltage is for the Tesla SDU and DC-DC converter? Maybe the info is somewhere on the forum, but I can't find it.

I think about using a 120s 480 V battery pack and wonder if it could do any harm. If so, I could take out some of the modules, but then I would lose kWh's.

Not sure if anyone has gone there before, you would be pretty close to the 600V (or 650V ?) rating of the IGBTs and a rule of thumb is to only utilize 2/3 of the breakdown voltage, i.e. 400V or 430V if it is 650V parts.
Bottom line, you'll tell us if it's possible, if you want.

EDIT: keep in mind voltage will rise up to 504V when cells are charged to 4.2V or when using regen in the top end. I'd be nervous.
