Toronto Area

Post by TonyV »

My First Post!

Anyone from the Toronto/Hamilton area here?
Anyways I just got back from Mike's Auto Wrecking and they have about 5 Gen 2 Prius's with the inverters and transaxle still in place.
I picked up the only 3rd Gen. inverter. ;)
HE didn't know how much to charge me and asked me what they were worth. I offered $100 and he said OK!
That's $100 Canadian Dollars!
I could've said $50 and he probably would've taken it.

Also there is a complete Toyota Camry Hybrid at Pic N Save in Hamilton
I'll figure this out sooner or later

yeah lots of Canadian yards are all over the map. you go to one yard and a dirty prius inverter is worth $$$ because of all the taxis with blown boost converters looking for replacements... others yeah 100$. its hit and miss. some times they say random numbers, there was a pile of toyota MGR motors, first time i asked- 600$ ...a month or 2 later i asked again.. 300$.

quite a few places are merely parting out for icbc stuff and dont give a shit about the public coming in. but hunting around you can get deals.

most yards near any city are full of ev parts

Hey! That's a good find!

Same here in Montreal, it's always a hit and miss situation at the various yards. You need to hunt hard to get deals.

I'm out west, I paid $157 for a Gen2 prius without cables or nothing. From a guy that lied to me and said the gasket was very expensive and they didn't want to take it apart... meanwhile you have to to unscrew the cables, which they removed. I'm not sure why they were lying (though that was a year ago and I've still never tested the inverter...), but, I'd rather not deal with them again.

Cheaper to get you to grab me parts and mail them to me :P

Thanks for the update. There are couple near me locally but don't seem to be too many. Let alone batteries, they seem to get scooped up quick.

If anyone finds a hook up for batteries let me know.
