Prius transaxle for fwd ev

Post by Ev8 »

Given the price of Prius transaxles I was looking for examples of them being used as power units, it’s easy to find lots of info on driving them and on locking the power split unit between mg1 and mg2 so I know it’s possible to use one stand alone, but I’m having trouble finding any examples of successful projects, just a couple of projects mid way through, and no feedback on achievable performance, so if anyone knows of any example to look at please point me to them.

Car projects are not quick projects. It's normal for even a quick project to take over a year.

Heck I still see people buying used LiFE prismatics that hasn't been the meta for 5+ years, because that's what they planned their build around when they started 5 years ago.

Damien only really kicked hybrid reverse engineering into high gear a year or two ago. Johannes followed suit by popular demand. So, the first few boards were pretty feature-thin and untested. Later boards now are moderately fleshed out.

Projects are mid-way through completion. It's too new to see lots of examples on the road. The best examples are the proof-of-concepts that Damien built.

Yup, I'm one of those 'in the process' projects. I realise that going from tested on a bench to actual fitting to a vehicle is another subject. With the current issues around safety, I prefer to 'set up' a minimum working space before continuing. Electricity and water are not the best of mates...Man cave in the making at the moment.

Oh Yes I fully understand how long these things take, my dc drive RX8 took a year to build and now I’m 3 months into a battery upgrade using bmw phev packs,

I was just thinking out loud having thoughts already about the next project and was looking to see if it had been done and all I could find from various online searches were a couple of stalled builds from about 5 years ago!
