Nissan Micra

Post by aquila787 »

Hi

Im new to all this. Have been reading a lot on evs and looking at YouTube videos particularly Damien Maguires. I am considering converting a Nissan Micra to run as an ev. What do you think?

If you were to do it what size of motor would you use and would it be ac or dc. Current ICE engine is 48kw....1 litre engine petrol.

What would you do for a battery. Recycle or make up one from old cells or buy new.

This has to be cheap. Doesnt need to be a rocket either. I would like 50 or more miles range. Would be good if I could add to the range.

John.

First of all I would be seriously considering why you want to convert a Nissan Micra. You can get an electric car of a similar size with more range than you require. It's the Nissan Leaf.

Converting the Micra to electric will probably, once all the dust settles, cost more than buying a used Leaf. These things have a tendency to blow budgets.

If your goal is simply to have cheap to run electric transport in the very near future, the Leaf is the way to go.

If the car is special to you, or you have ideas about making it high performance, or you really want to have a project to work on and time isn't a concern, then converting a car to EV is the right decision.

Can you define 'cheap'?

I thought I replied to this earlier but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway around €3000 would be the limit. Something like Damien Maguires €1000 or less.

adjective:
(of an item for sale) low in price; worth more than its cost.

Good point about the value of car vs build cost.

Also......has anyone here used a Remy HVH250 motor to drive an ev or even a 40 or 50 kw 480 volts 3 phase motor out of a wood or metalworking machine.
