Outlander charger dc:dc

Post by FFMan »

My Outlander charger no longer wants to output any current on the 12v out line when i enable the dc:dc.

It used to work and i got like 14+ volkts, now it floats at battery voltage all the time, and does nothing when i try and activate dc:dc. The CAN messages appear to report dc:dc inactive but all the right signals are present.

has anyone had this issue or any ides about what i should check ?

is there a CAN method to enable DC:DC that I might try, i can't see any mention in the notes of dbc etc.

Otherwise I think i'm after a new charger...

What are you using to control the inverter? Did you check the wiring? Especially if the sense line is still intact and the reported voltage is correct?

The DC/DC doesn't need any CAN messages to activate itself, it "just works": https://openinverter.org/wiki/Mitsubish ... _Converter

But maybe you can share logs of the status that is reported by the DC/DC?

DCDC and charger communicate via CAN and power inputs on the low voltage connector on the side. You need to provide 12V on its Sense line for DCDC to "activate" itself. Otherwise there is as well a DCDC power supply pin "Enable" to which you need to supply 12V to turn ON its logic before connecting "Sense" pin. CAN lines start reporting when logic is powered on.
There also needs to be a good GND connection with the chassis as well as a single GND line to connect the logic of both charger and DCDC.
Here is the connector pinout: https://openinverter.org/wiki/Mitsubish ... _Converter

I would suggest you clean the LV connector and inspect that you get clear signal on corresponding pins.

thanks for that.

As you say, the DCDC is simple requiring no CAN to make work, and my experience with it has been solid until now. I suspect a poor join somewhere as I reassembled it, maybe a pin wasn't seated in the connector housing and has pushed out. At the weekend i'll take it all out and see.

I joined the main 12v to the sense line, the timing doesn't seem to matter, and the bring high the enable line as required.

good job it was built to come apart !
