need help I identifying Electronic parts. Chevy Volt DCtoDC

Post by TonyV »

Wasn't sure where to post this question so I posted it here....

I'm now on my 3rd DCtoDC converter.
For some reason the board burns/shorts out at the same spot.
I was hoping someone on here can identify 4 numbered parts. (especially #2)
This way I can try to replace them instead of buying the entire unit.

Thanks in advance. :)

Can you mark down readings across all of them in place and verify that the 2 are identical circuits / identical value components? If so, pull the ones off the left side of the burnt image to measure resistance / capacitance.
Just saw the difference edit.
Some could be the same between the circuits but it's probably wise to pull each and measure them.

1 resistor of unknown value
2 resistor of unknown value
3 "103" = 10k https://www.digikey.com/en/resources/co ... istor-code
4 capacitor? Of unknown value

Then https://www.protoexpress.com/kb/differe ... age-sizes/ for the footprint size references.

White body of the resistor means non flammable / fusible resistor. Just means when they fail it's not on fire (for long) or exploding.

1 and 2 could also be capacitors. The light grey colour suggest COG/NP0 dielectric so could be up to 100nF depending on voltage rating.

Oh boy... :?

I guess the only way to figure out if it's a capacitor or resistor is to remove it and measure it....right?

Do you feed DC directly behind contactors or do you have to turn on main contactor to start dcdc?
I went trough 2 of them and i allways connectedcthem directly to dcdc.

DCDC + High Voltage connected to a dedicated contactor then to 20amp breaker then to HV Battery +.
DCDC - High Voltage connected directly to HV battery Negative
Main Contactor(s) (Contactor #1) remains open.
Battery Charger Contactor (Contactor #3) is always open until the AC is connected.

I think the answer to your question is, Yes the DCDC is behind a contactor
