I broke the first rule of EV club and started out with a rust bucket (though “bucket” is giving it too much credit. But A friend of mine said if I drug it out of his woods, I could have it. It had been sitting there since he bought the place 30 years ago, and the last registration sticker was from 1976.
Two years and 22 YouTube videos later, I got drive it powered by a Smart car motor (Bosch smg180/120), a gen 2 Prius inverter, and a small temporary battery pack. Here’s the video on setting up the inverter:
I made some dumb mistakes in the process, but in the end I got to the point where I’m fairly happy with the initial tune. Next task will be sorting out the batteries.
