Hello.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to swap the standard 3.7kW onboard charger on my Vw golf Gte 2015 model with the one from a VW e-Up 7.2kW to gain faster charging?
Preferably without the car throwing errors.
By looking at the partnumbers listed on this link:
https://openinverter.org/wiki/VAG_MLBevo_MQB_Chargers
and a quick google search it seems the connectors are the excact same.
I do know I would need to change out the charging port also to get the connection for the second phase

Re: Golf Gte 7.2kW charger
Try it and see?
I have read the 2 phase 7.2kw units can be recoded to single phase , think there's a video on the forum somewhere about it.

Re: Golf Gte 7.2kW charger
I want to start this project too, I love this car and refuse to sell it, I just want it to charge faster so I can use it more in electric mode.
Any progress on your side @Ags167 ?
The plugs direction seems to be different on the e-golf and 7.2 kW chargers, I can imagine those can be swapped, if the holes for the metal angle adapter fits, otherwise we can make new holes. Not sure if the wires reach to that point inflexion either...
The biggest question is how the car BMS reacts, if it will be plug and play on the CAN side, pins seems to match. Maybe leds are different on e-golf and e-Up?
Not sure if we can dream to 3-phase of if we should stick with 2-phase.
Many questions, but I'm willing to do it, maybe it will be the first one world-wide.
