My distributed solar for our hired appartment

Post by johu »

Just found I never shared this here.
So since 2014 I've have various kinds of solar panels on the balcony, right now 500W on one Enecsys inverter and 350W on some other one.

Then I added various panels onto the garage roof of the garage I don't even rent. One was bought new 390W, then 35 year old panels from my dads old system and (not on the picture) 2 thin film panels from a large near by power plant that was repowered. Another 450W Enecsys inverter and the infamous China "Grid Tie Inverter" for the two thin film panels. Highest power output I ever saw was 700W.

When I built the V2G setup I procured a 5 kW hybrid inverter that I only use the battery part of. I thought that is a bit sad, so I bought 4 440W panels for 60€ a piece and now had to find a place to put them.

How about here?

The plants died from some insect pest last year so I got rid of them.

Mounted the rails

And the panels

They are high voltage panels, sitting at aorund 40V MPP or 50V open circuit. The minimum MPP voltage of the inverter is 150V so that's a match. Energy can now flow nicely straight from the sun into the cars battery without DC/AC/AC/DC conversion losses.

And for the sake of completeness, if the car's not home energy is stored here:

I'm planning to kill off the large solar array when energy can no longer be used or stored. Prevents problems with grid export.

400w panels for 60eur each is cheap, in the UK I think they're going for around £65 each new which is amazing. They're almost cheaper than fence panels... and much more productive!

Yeah it's outrageous how much they've come down! If you buy a palette of 36 it drops towards 50€.

On the balcony you could squeeze 4 panels, or 8 if you install the vertically. and you an create some shade for the rooms below in the summer.
