EV Conversions for dummy

Post by poor »

Hi all,

Trying to begin my EV conversion but I am struggling with the component selections. I am looking at converting a 2016 VW Golf 1.2 tsi automatic. I have done the calculations on the required power I will need for my motor but that's as far as I've come. Is it possible to source a new motor 70kW peak power? Do I then configure the drivetrain based on the motors specifications (voltage)? I'm completely new to the electrical side (my background is in mechanical), so any help would be much appreciated! :D

Welcome to the forum.

The community here is more focused on reusing OEM components than new off the shelf parts. I recommend checking out the wiki for a list of motor options: https://openinverter.org/wiki/Main_Page ... ive_trains

Yes your choice of motor will inform the selection of other components, primarily the inverter and battery which will need to be able to meet the voltage and current requirements.
