At CES2026, Donut Lab presented a battery with incredible performance data. There is a lot of skepticism, but this video acknowledges the possibility that it could be real. Of course, it would be a dream come true, especially for us converters. No cooling, no heating, and safe.
What do you think of the “donut” battery?

Lots of speculation and hedging. I've heard of donut labs (why name it that?) motor but not sure it's anything special. I'm sure their hype to reality is fairly consistent over time, but I haven't followed them enough to see the claims vs deliveries. Worth following up in the fall or maybe next spring if / when they start deliveries.

Here is another, less positive perspective. Unfortunately, it’s only available in German:

Huge dose of pessimism, but Chery announced a solid state battery is going into production this year, along with others like Mercedes are already testing. So I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility and the cost of lying, reputation would be expensive so why make the claim when you don’t have to?
Excited though, seeing the numbers and thinking ‘how would I fit them in my conversion?’ You can’t help but dream.
Donut Labs is a hubless motor, so looks like a donut. I presume is the reason behind the name.

They had some testing done, 4.5 min to 80% and some heating while charging references,
