Not all systems do this. Some vehicles run sperate condensors and evaporators in the cabin. Even the MEB vehicles do this.

I'm guessing they do this for dehumidifying the air. Otherwise its a lot of extra stuff for no great reason (that I can think of..)

Theres also some confusion now calling what were condensers heat exchangers now that they are used as both in heat pump systems. This will add to the confusion of which heat exchanger, where and some default back to the old names. Inside / outside or indoor / outdoor heat exchangers may also be used for names to add to the confusion.
