I-PACE battery

Post by arber333 »

Hi

This request is more for hardware section, but still...
I may get a Jag battery here... 90kWh! But i will need to rewire those cell modules. Does anyone have any pic on how those modules look on the inside? I need to know if cells can be disassembled from 4P3S configuration. If they are assembled by bolts or welded... I need to prepare on what is possible.

tnx

Ah... i have seen this photo...and it seems so nice a setup. Like it is put together by sandwiched cells and bolted electrodes. Is it friction welded?
But this is Audi cell module! Isnt Jaguars narrower with more pronounced lip on the side? I thought there is the electrocde clamping system.

It does not matter. the module casing is welded to the end caps.

Yes all cells are welded too.

Hm... Thanks for that.
Contacts are welded to end plates AND end plates are welded to casing!!! How in the world do they not short then? I find that hard to believe.
So the module box is not meant to be dissassembled? I thought one plate could be loosened from the side and cover taken off.
I could break the 4P contacts in halfh and use some alu plate and 3bolts on each side to connect with adjacent cells. This way i could make 2x 2P100S packs.

There is a full internal plastic casing that holds everything, the the aluminium for head transfer in the middle and two cast ends.

the two cast ends are laser welded 360 degree. No way in without a saw or grinder.

Hm... Multitool then, it might be easier on the alu shell and insides.
So you are sure Etron and Ipace are the same modules?

E-tron might have either pouch or prismatic cells, I've seen modules with prismatic cells, but not 100% sure of source (was told e-tron)

You really don't want to disassemble the i-pace modules, why not use a different source for better 'fitting' modules?

btw. one of the standard failing modes for these 'closed' modules is the internal fuses for the cell-taps blowing.

Yeah... well there is no better price vs kWh and cell power. I intend to split the pack in halfh and make 2x 2P100S batteries. This will give me 40kWh+ and my friend will share the cost for his car. Since we will split the pack i will probably use my custom BMS. It all depends on how connections are inside.

I will definitely post what is inside those modules, battery porn for free :)!
