Re: help any forklift motor experts is this one suitable??
Recently on the DIYEV forums, a few users from the UK have been mentioning that they cannot find a Series-Wound DC forklift motor.
They're saying that no junkyards have them anymore, no one's seen them in years, etc. Basically zero availablility and that this is a dead-end for UK EVers.
I've been spouting the usual advice that seems to work in every other country... show up in person to a place that fixes forklifts and ask if you can take one off a carcass they're about to throw away, you'd get one anywhere from free to $200. I've pointed out that no one's buying them, so no one's taking the time to extract them and try to sell them, and that you have to show up in person and ask for them to pull one aside. But, apparently, in the UK, (someone tried calling 30 yards) this is no longer a thing.
I've cited Damien a few times and the $1000 build, but, one user pointed out that Damien merely just had these old motors from a decade ago and that you can't find them anymore like he used to be able to.
Damien/Kevin/anyone else in the UK with a little more experience, have things changed? Is there something they're missing? Anything I should be passing along?
