where to pass TUV in Germany
I want to ask advice where is a TUV station friendly with home made conversions of ICE to electric.
I am based in Trier and I feel the station here is not used to certifying new conversions.
I know the master of the forum is passing TUV in Kassel, will help me to know which one of the 3 i can see in google maps.
will thank for your fast opinions.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Johannes went to the TÜV in Göttingen, but I'm not sure which one of the three stations. You could just call them and ask if they have experience with EV conversions. Probably only one will say yes

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
I got answer from Gottingen:
"Ihr Umbau aus „zusammengestrickten“ Komponenten ist hier an der Station durch uns nicht darstellbar, wenn nachvollziehbar Komponenten aus bereits Typgenehmigten Fahrzeugen (z.B. Nissan Leaf u.ä), „adaptiert“ werden, dann können wir in Abhängigkeit von den erforderlichen Nachweisen/Prüfungen helfen. "
So I have not a place where to pass TUV for my EV conversion (AC24LS motor + openinverter home made + catl batteries on home made box +ZEVA BMS, in a 1999 car). Please if somebody knows where to pass TUV let me know. thanks

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
With this combination, you will need to pass EMC (Electromagnetic Compliance), which will be quite expensive ( 5000€+ area, if you pass on the first try).

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
crasbe, i thank you your answer trying to help me, but i readed in the wiki (https://openinverter.org/wiki/Germany ) that cars manufactured before October 2002 you only need to prove "Funkentstörung" . I dont know what exactly is this , but translation from google say "interference suppression".
I still dont know what it means exactly, for some reason i imagine just to power on the radio and see if there is interferences or something like that.
So directly asked johannes in patreon one month ago :
"... johannes, you mentioned important match inverter and motor. Do you think still posible to pass german TUV with my 1999car having a home made inverter(with your motherboard) and a AZD motor(american made) ?
he answer: ... With said combination you don't need the test. "
I understand clearly I dont need EMC test.
So please, johannes or other could clarify this, please , and better ... where a TUV aware of these date details.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
You should maybe change your request at the TÜV. There is the VdTÜV leaflet 764. It summarizes the important regulations for the conversion to an EV drive. When you report to the TÜV, you should state that you have this leaflet and have designed your conversion accordingly.

yes, i have the "764" document and also i have a memory document I sent the TUV and the first paragraph in this memory is that I followed this document.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Actually doesn't look bad. The battery and battery attachment could look more professional. Above all, the loose pouch cells and the BMS wiring will have deterred the TÜV. Here I would only have mentioned that they are from a Mrcedes.

I liiked up your document and i must say am impressed by worksmanship. Very good.chentron wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 10:04 am here is the link of the document I write:

About the only thing that stood out for me was the battery box design.
From my experience at TUV SUD the guy requested from me to open the front cell cover and show him how cells were mouinted. Then to my amazement he went in by hand and tried to move the cells violently. Since i used M8 bolts for mounts they held. But you may want to consider what any involuntary movement would do to your cells and links. In example if you go rolling over would the cells stay fixed? Would the barriers between terminals hold or would they touch and cause fire?
Wood is actually not bad filler material to keep distance for links just saying...

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
yes, this is not a nice finishing, just wanting do the work, not clean, some rust... This car is going to have to go through muddy roads every day.
muehl, you are in other level, your ev conversion is amazing.
thanks arber. you can not imagine how you inspire with your ideas in other posts. It is not visible in the photos, but it is impossible to move the cells by hand, in fact it was a problem to change a cell that was not in optimal condition.
Please, other users reading: I am still looking for a TUV friendly with EV conversions.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Just dug up that comment:
Not sure what I was referring to with "said combination" but surely you do need to prove "Funkentstörung" with a homebuilt inverter, hence why I mentioned the Polo. Sorry about the confusing answer. I'll send you the document that got me to pass. The test took 3 hours, I'd be surprised if a test lab really charged thousands for it.I have passed TÜV with my home made inverter and industrial motor back in 2014 with Polo. Secret was: I got a free EMC test at the company I worked for.
With said combination you don't need the test

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
I am not getting answers from any TUV, and where I get answer they send me to a "cul de sac" so I am starting to consider whether to change the motor and inverter for those of an electric car. I'm reading the wiki and I'm not sure if this statement: "Most importantly motor and inverter must belong together"
It means that the engine and inverter must be the same car model, and you cannot put a Mitsubishi engine and a Toyota inverter.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Yes, I passed 2 times like that. If you go for Outlander front motor you must use Outlander front inverter for example.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Some Universitys have those labs. At least here in Karlsruhe we have one at KIT (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie). Specifically at the IEH (Institut für Elektroenergiesysteme und Hochspannungstechnik). They are also accredited. If I remember correctly they also offer it for external companys/individuals. Might be worth a shot to contact the person in charge of the EMC Test Department. Maybe if you ask them nicely they will work something out with you

From what I remember of the lectures I took there, they made a competent and helpful impression.
And even if they charge you for it, it is probably cheaper then what you will pay a company that is specialised in those things. Especially if you need to redo the test because you failed the first time (which I strongly suggest you should expact).
Heres the link to their emv lab website:

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Hi together,
I'm struggling with this question too ...
Wiki says "Rather remarkably, if your donor car was manufactured before October 2002 you only need to prove "Funkentstörung". With cars younger than that you need to go all in with ECE-10 which also includes the proof that your car isn't disturbed by EMI from outside."
Wonder what is meant by the term "donor car". Is it the donor car from which I take the components? Or is it the donor car into which I install the components?

The car into which you install the components.
On other news Klaus Baumeister has retired
Not sure who is the new authority.

Re: where to pass TUV in Germany
Thanks to johu!
I mean it's understandable that the many sensors etc. in a newer car shouldn't be affected by the electric conversion. But for older cars it should be enough to prove that they do not cause any external interference.

I lost all hope of finding a company that would do the "Funkentstörung" test for me. If anyone finds any, please say so here.
