SDU first spin up

Post by EVS2K »

I have the modified (running backwards, ghetto LSD) Tesla SDU with OpenInverter installed in a subframe and all wired up.

I am using the following wiring diagram with the contractor box from the MG ZS EV. I added an extra line to close the Main Negative contactor on Ignition.

When I flick the Ignition switch the Main Neg contactor closes. The Pre-Charge contactor also closes and remains closed for a second or two then opens again. I assume it is looking for the battery voltage, not seeing it, and releasing the Pre-Charge contactor.

I have connected a 60V DC power supply to it and it does the same. Maybe this is not enough? Or maybe there is a setting in the interface for a voltage threshold. I haven't looked yet but thought I would run past the hive mind first.

Let me know your thoughts.

Settings are required to be shown for us to help, please post your settings.

Please graph UDC while this is going on in the webinterface to show if the drive unit is measuring voltage.

That said, they are all default values, except 'dirmode' which is 'SwitchReversed'.

I followed your instructions above (thanks):

udcsw 0
udcmin 0

Then I calibrated the pedal with a dead spot at the bottom and top of the range.

If you watch the video you'll notice that even though I have the direction switch to FWD and dirmode set to SwitchReversed it actually runs backwards (well forwards, but I have the motor rotated 180º). I've since changed the dirmode to 'Switch' and it behaves properly. Must check my wiring though.

Also, the power supply is maxing out and cuts out if I depress the pedal too fast or too far. Have to be very gentle and it is limited the 5 amps. But it is enough for the test.

I would still appreciate someone having a look through my JSON and making any suggestions. I have a very limited understanding of what any of those fields are at present. Sure there's a look up some where.

One out of spec thing I am doing is running this motor with a reconfigured MG ZS EV battery. So 453v (max) and probably limited Amperage. Would love to know where I can limit amps drawn.

Just watched your video. Good job on getting the motor spinning.

Your throttle pedal is maxing out the input. This is dangerous!
