Toyota to mazda

Post by rstevens81 »

i'm now now getting close to road worthy with my project is about time to think about phase II ...
My plan for phase 2 is to mate an is300h transmission to to a mazda, initial you would think easy ...however mazda use an aluminium frame (PPF) to link the rear diff to the transmission ... in the US with V8 swaps is quote common to actually delete the PPF and weld some bits on to make it all work, however i live in a daft country called the UK where even drilling a hole in a body panel would count as a significant modification and the car would be sent off to the crusher unless i spent ££££ and lets face it the car aint worth much :)

Now therefore this means i must fabricate some form of adapter ... my proposed plan of attack is come up with some ideas put them into (free) CAD make it in 3d printer filament then either let it laser cut out of 3mm sheet steel or more likely scribed onto some sheet steel and some grinder action :)

This my stock transmission (as with all good projects you have lots of spares of bits you might kill)

(sorry forgot to take pic of underside)...
Well the bottom flange of the adapter should not be too hard... a little googling leads me to this pic (which os of a quaif sequential)

the only way to not put the bolts on the bottom into bending (which is very bad) is to try and support the upper flange of the PPF, the only ideas i have had so far is to try and pick up on the bolts at the top by making some sort of bracket this would put the bolts into tension which isnt ideal but probably acceptable.

One thing that has sadly become obvious is im going to need to skip the doughnut at the and of the transmission as basically their aint space ... probably just have to add a single dougnut at the propshaft end as for the gearbox end im going to need to machine down the original fitting to accept late then some sort of yoke bit. (planing to modify is300h prop)

is there input people who have had experience of this sorta suff could add just in case i missed somethng.

as this going to be DIY i must stae i am going to fab my version of these just in case things go south...
