Battery choice?

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on an ev project (1973 Toyota Corona Estate with GS300H gearbox, inverter and zombieverter interface board), and have come to the battery and bms choice / purchase. I'd love to re-use an existing ev-pack, taken apart ofcourse. I have space onder the hood and in the rear of the car. Focussing on price more than range, a 100km range at low speeds (80km/h) is more than enough.

any tips on battery choice (and maybe bms while we are at it )?

I have Fiat 500e 42 kwh almost new battery and peugeot 50 kwh battery on both bms can be reused, bmw x5 24 kwh also bms can be reused and various other packs available. Feel free to PM to discuss

Other than those already mentioned
Leaf pack and BMS is supported by Zombie.
Flying ADC 16 Channel BMS can be made to interface with most packs and it a good price.
SimpBMS or offshoots thereof, at various price points.
If you are in the UK, the Pkeugeot/Vauxhall 50kWh packs can be had very cheap, (also the MG ones but I dont think the BMS has been hacked for those).

Biggest question is where are you based and what are the legal requirements for getting your vehicle on the road?

100km range at "slow"80km/h would only require a relatively small pack of >30 kWh so there are many options as mentioned by others.

I do have some experience with the leaf "ecosystem", but did not know the leaf pack and bms were supported by the zombieverter!
This (and the fact leaf packs don't go up in flames easy ) makes the choice much easier, Leaf it is!

I note in your other posts your are from the Netherlands. How are you approaching your build from a legal/paperwork point of view?

Don't tell anyone, but I'm circumventing those rules by using a 50+ year old car, which is exempt from all checks... no mot needed etc.

For a newer vehicle I would go for the waiver where you use all ev components from a single EV donor (like the entire leaf stack).
