Topic: Pulling inverter and motor from parts car. Any other hardware I should grab?
Hello all. I am going to be pulling parts from a 2012 Nissan leaf wreck and was wondering if there was any hardware that would be helpful/needed besides motor and inverter?

Welcome

You'll probably need to tell us more about your plans. If you're not sure then i'd say grab everything and then sell what you don't want in the future

Like Kevin said grab every part you can from Leaf. Even the computer boxes can be reused.
Do not forget cable harness for your parts.
Generally you will definitely use... Motor, gearbox, driveshafts, inverter, charger, DCDC, DC contactor circuit, HV battery of course, fluid pumps, throttle pedal, brake pump if it has vacum pump, 3way fluid valve, 5kW PTC heater, AC compressor and its plumbing, HV fuse...

Thanks for the responses. My initial instinct was to just grab the whole car and it sounds like that is a good idea. Finding a leaf wreck in the us that's not at auction is pretty rare so I think I'm gonna try and get the whole thing.

And I fell pray to the 'newbie post with no details'
. My goals are different from my plans so I'll start with those.
2005 325i donor vehicle(already have almost torn down)
Leaf motor and inverter with rev3
Everything else is up in the air until I can source a battery effectively. Insurance auctions are about the only source for BEV lithio packs, but I am considering taking the weight penalty and trying to harvest several Prius packs that are available from private sellers and junkyards. BEV's usually do not go to junkyards and prices are inflated by large companies reselling and tearing down the packs. Once I can source a battery I'll make the final decisions on the rest of the build. I'd like to cut my teeth and just get the motor running first

When you're ready feel free to start a project page so that we can give you specific advise on your build.
If you don't have the Leaf motor then I'd highly recommend looking at the GS450H CVT as used in the BEXUS project (here). This is a much simpler, cheaper and lighter conversion for a RWD car and will leave you a lot more room for batteries under the hood.
Damien has said several times that he would expect to use Toyota/Lexus power plants on most of his conversions in future

Thanks for the advice. If I can source one I will definitely get that instead. My long term goals are just a reliable daily driver, and the Lexus CVT tend to be more expensive than the leaf packages, i believe that car is not as common. That being said, coming from years of experience fixing ICE cars, ~$800 off ebay for the performance and ease of the lexus CVT is definitely not overpriced

Depending on what you want for range, the Chevy Volt packs are not too difficult to find. car-part.com lets you search junkyards nationwide for it, there are a bunch there for half-way reasonable prices.btdale wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 4:44 pm Everything else is up in the air until I can source a battery effectively. If at first you don't succeed, buy a bigger hammer.

I'm pretty sure I've watched just about all of Damien's videos. I really appreciate all the work that people have put into this community definitely would not be possible for someone like me to have the level of Understanding that I do without all of y'all's commitment to open source.
Thank you for the website suggestion I'll definitely check that out!
