Charge an EV directly from Solar Edge Array

Post by bikeGuy »

Ive seen many topics skirting this topic but none quite like what I'm thinking.

Background:
1. A Solar Edge DC-DC power optimizer connects to a single solar panel with its two input wires. There is one optimizer per solar panel. Two output wires provide MPPT'd output at a voltage that has been preprogrammed at the time of commissioning. The optimizers only put out 1 V when the sun comes up and the preprogrammed voltage when told to do so by the main inverter.

2. The outputs are connected in series just like plain solar panels would normally be, in a serial string to provide a constant fixed high voltage to the single main inverter. So a string of 9 panels provides 9V until told to power up when it might be 360V, (9*40).

3. The communication with the optimizers with the main inverter is done with GreenPHY, like CCS ?

4. The fixed voltage is around 360VDC depending on the number of panels ect.

5. My 2014 Chevy Spark battery is ~370VDC.

The proposal.

A. Figure out the communication with the optimizers during commissioning. Store the access parameters.
B. Turn off the Soar Edge system and relay isolate the string(s) to inverter.
C. Figure out the voltage the car wants to see.
D. Figure out how to program all optimizers for the voltage wanted.
E. Connect the car.
F Adjust the voltage as required.

The good
1. Safe
2. Efficient
3. Simple, except for the programming!

The bad?

That's the simplified top level. Anyone see any show stoppers?
