Scammed On A BMW Battery

Post by Jack Bauer »

So I guess this is a warning for others. Last year I purchased a 9kwh BMW PHEV battery from a breaker yard in Ireland that I had done some business with in the past without problems. As usual with me plans changed and I only got to start working on the battery today. My first uh oh moment was when I found the one security torx fastener was missing and had been replaced with a normal hex head bolt. Once got the lid off I found the sbox completely missing and the bms master wiring not clipped down as is usual. Long story short it seems what happened is someone had a 530e with a battery problem , sourced a replacement , swapped out their bms master and sbox into the replacement battery and fitted that to their car. The "dead " one was then put back together minus the sbox and sold to me as a complete working battery from a crash written off car. Possibly the car that donated its battery to the now repaired car.

Due to the libel laws in Ireland and the fact that I can't prove who did what or when , I'm not going to name the company publicly other than to say they are based in the Republic Of Ireland. If anyone is worried send me a pm. So yeah be careful folks. Seems this kind of thing will get more common. I'm more sad about what this says about the human condition than the personal loss.
I'm going to need a hacksaw
