Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Kelju, Any updates on if you got your adapter board working in the Gen 3 inverter?
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Those types of joiners are ok for use in military aircraft so go ahead just use a good heat gun with the wrap around attachment thingy to heat all round at once, and make sure the solder flows.

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
A little inconclusive but pretty much sums up what I said earlier.

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
As a auto sparky who works on normal cars and builds race looms as well, please don't use these heat solder joiners, there rubbish, either crimp join it with the dual wall heatshrink or solder it with a soldering iron and heatshrink, these things will fail in the future making your life not very fun trying to find the cause of a dodgy signal somewhere.
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I too am struggling with the 400A limit with a 40kWh pack. I've seen screenshots from Leafspy Pro with 180kW (500A), so something is missing to get it to output more.
I tried to modify the available battery power ( LB_Discharge_Power_Limit ) message in 0x1DC ti 180kW, just like the 62kWh pack sends it, but it did not help.
Anyone here got any ideas?
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I have concluded that we won't get further with raising power from 400A -> 500A without a native LEAF 2019 e+ EV-CAN log.
Anyone got one?
Anyone got one?
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I got the logs! From an e+. Still no luck with getting 500A, but we are getting there slowly. I got a lot of fault codes cleared now that I know what to send on the bus.
Before code:
After code:
I think that the reason we don't get 500A is due to having fault codes active. If I were writing automotive code, I would put the vehicle in some limp mode when fault codes are active. Let's see if we can get rid of that last U1000!

Go Dala Go!
100%. Would be like asking for full power on an ICE with a major sensor fault. An ECM just won't allow it.

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Thanks @eCRX , now I made some more progress, just two more codes to squash!
I will update the inverter code on github once I get the last two ones fixes. The P318E in particular sounds quite bad; "Traction motor inverter is unable to receive the EV system CAN signal from VCM"
Either of the following statuses is observed.
• No impact to vehicle behavior
• Stops drive control of traction motor
So getting that one cleared is now top prio!

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I finally got it
Now the code sends enough CAN messages to make the system believe everything is fine:
I've updated the inverter code on Github: https://github.com/dalathegreat/Nissan- ... inverter.c
Warning, that code is r o u g h. I will optimize it later on when I know that it actually gives 500A now.
Now to continue with some error-free roadtesting....

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Do we know what the battery voltage limit is on the OEM Nissan logic board?
Also, from what I've been able to glean on-line, the 160kW inverter has a higher rpm limit and therefore top speed, than the 110kW. Can anyone confirm that this is the case and it's not different gearing.

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
There is no gear, everything is hidden by the power plate inforce drivers above it. a logic board provides communication and monitoring through it with the ev control module, if the open inverter bard used is not needed

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I received two inverters, one 160Kw and one 110Kw
I opened both Inverters, one is 5WK0A which is 110 Kw
the other one is 5SN0A which is 160Kw and one 110Kw As stated before they are the same except for the main board!

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
I ordered this Plug and tried to plug it in on the inverter - it does not fit!
Are there any alternatives?

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
You could approach Dave at South West EV (on Youtube). I know he cooked his old inverter and bought another so might have a spare connector or Dala.
I noticed before the HV battery connector is different to the inverter connector even though they look the same.
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Do you think the flash could be coppied from the 160kW inverter into the 110kW?

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
dam it! dose part of the assembly fit? is it the key way or are the pin location different ?

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Except for the outer ring the amount of pins and the distance between them is totally different!

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
We might have a spare one here that we can post to you, I would need to "check inventory".
Edit: Apologies, we left it on the donor cars when taking the HV towers out.
Edit Edit: Look who it is!
Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
Hi All,
So I've managed to drag my 2019 110Kw stack into the house to work on it, and got the wiring connected, however I can't seem to get much response out of it, I monitoring CAN and get IDs 0x1DA 0x120 and 0x55A for about 5 seconds then nothing. I've tried supplying power to the inverter separately from the PDM, with and with HV (207VDC Prius Pack) and nothing. Any ideas anyone?
Much appreciated.

Re: Nissan Leaf Gen3 inverter
You need to start sending 0x11A 0x1D4 and 0x50B towards the inverter right away, otherwise it goes to sleep. http://productions.8dromeda.net/c55-lea ... tocol.html
