Re: Pics of your HV junction contactor box

In my 914 I have 2 separate battery packs and each has their own set of fuse and contactors to protect the separate packs and keep HV within the enclosure when the car is off, no mid pack disconnects though. Then, in a third box I have the main fuse, precharge relays and resistor (separate contactor ...

Driver-induced oscillations

With my car I still have the transmission. The way it is built up there's both a good amount of slop in the drivetrain (through transmission, differential, CVs, etc) but the suspension is really stiff, so I can get driver induced oscillations, especially in 2nd gear - press on throttle, this surges ...

Re: Inverter Firmware 5.35.R

On first glance it looks like you're sending regenpreset=0
Yes max... hz=0 results in legacy throttle map

Can confirm this indeed fixed it.

I will say, with my 914, I still have the clutch so I get to 'test' the runaway protection sometimes when I shift at high enough RPMs. I was previously on ...

Re: Inverter Firmware 5.35.R

Was able to get CAN and brakecheck up and running, I was missing the second counter (only had the bits 30-31 enabled at first). Then after adding that it still was not working, but then after fiddling around but overall changing nothing it started working - I imagine it may have been something to do ...

Re: Inverter Firmware 5.35.R

Upgraded directly from 5.27. What does 'BrakeCheck' state mean? Currently attempting to send brake over CAN, though I would think there should still be a way to use the physical brake input without using the CAN messaging.

Also, how should I implement the CAN crc, given that the ...

Maybe the 12V system is browning out? Read about this on Zoes: https://www.speakev.com/threads/check-electric-system.17154/

I tried checking the 12V levels while running the heater, no noticeable issues, read about 13.8-14V. Running the rear defroster didn't make a significant difference either ...

Comparing the 3210 to a 3204, the only difference is the missing ferrite bead (I think that's what that is) on the bottom left corner of the board, and the label applied to the brick. (The Nano-fits on the 3204 were a manual modification and not how it originally came ...

Re: Isolation Monitor - Suggestions?

I found a stash of IR155-3210 for sale for cheap on Ebay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196329086628
This seems to be the same base hardware as the IR155-3204 but sold for chargers instead of vehicles.

I've found a couple different datasheets for the 3210:

If you don't know what a Coda is, they were a failed EV startup that was making a factory EV conversion of a Chinese car and they sold 117 cars only here in California before the company went out of business.

Re: UDC Conflict / Gen 2 Charger with V5 card vs. Orion 2 BMS

My delta between Tesla Gen2 charger and BMS voltage is usually around 3 volts. 10 volts is a big difference. If you lower the charge current do the voltages get closer together? That would indicate you have extra resistance somewhere, 10 volt drop at 20 amps would mean that there is 200 watts being ...

Re: Newb Asks: Do Two Battery Packs Need To Be Equal Distant?

I have this setup on my car and have had no practical issues. Definitely make sure you have a fuse for each pack, at the pack (not just for the two packs combined together) and you probably want separate contactors for each pack. I did that such that there's no HV on those wires that travel across ...

Re: A word of caution - grenaded motor!

I've had a couple uncommanded runaways myself, though thankfully I was able to shut things off before I broke anything. So far the only casualty has been the fuse to my DCDC somehow.

What is the mechanism for the runaway? Is it that resolver alignment isn't perfect, so flux weakening d current can ...

Re: 1975 Porsche 914 conversion restoration and modernizing

Latest update: thanks to Pete's motor parameter estimator , was able to make some tuning improvements to the motor, such that I can get a bit better performance out of it. Even with a fairly empty battery I get pretty close to 80kW. Increasing max flux weakening current to 700A also helped - I was ...

Re: Measuring IPM Motor Parameters from Plots

I retuned my gains the other night and ended up with iqkp of 250, idkp of 125, and curki of 22000. The previous ones I was using were not too different. Not sure what the metric for 'best' gains is - I did my tuning with a current clamp probe and tried to tune in the best step response as possible ...

Re: Leaf Gen2 DC Voltage Sense

Is the UDC measurement only used for those limits or is it used for more direct motor control stuff? If it is used for motor control stuff then it would make sense to me to have it as accurate as possible across the full range. Or maybe it doesn't matter much?

One of the reasons I did this was to ...

Leaf Gen2 DC Voltage Sense

I noticed the DC input voltage as measured at my Gen2 Leaf was pretty off from the full pack estimate reported by my BMS. (I have this version of the control board ) I noticed when I got an overvoltage fault right after precharging. 345 was measured at 368.5, 332 was 351, 305 was 313. I did some ...

Re: Flux is strengthening instead of weakening? [SOLVED]

Guessing that you are running on the wrong syncofs null. Try adding/subtracting 32768 to syncofs (whichever keeps the value below 65536) and trying again. The motor will run backwards (which can be fixed by swapping a couple of phases and retuning syncofs) but you should then have field weakening ...

Flux is strengthening instead of weakening? [SOLVED]

Bit of backstory here - I have a conversion that the previous owner originally converted many years ago and I have restored to working order. (More on that once I figure this issue out ;)) The motor and inverter in it were originally purchased as a pair from China, the motor is huge, but PM and ...
