Lexus gs450h high pitch noise
I have been running my setup with no problem until yesterday when the motor developed a very high piched noise, any ideas on what could have occurred?..the motor has 4 litters of AWS fluid

Got a video of the noise? My first transmission developed a nasty noise after 1k miles. I didn't find out what caused it.

Re: Lexus gs450h high pitch noise
I replaced the transmission. Only thing I found was the hole for the internal oil pump was damaged. I didn't fancy all the effort to put it back in without it just incase it wasn't it.

Re: Lexus gs450h high pitch noise
here my take on the situation....
i would say with 95% confidence is that we are dealing with old car parts here, we don't know why the cars were scrapped and there's a high likelihood many of these motors/gearbox things have done high mileages and have not had fluid changes and probably on their last legs anyway ...(there a whole controversy over sealed for life and gearboxes, with the sensible concussion being fluid probably should be changed after 100k miles even if the manufactures don't say to so so) ... short answer we are dealing with scrap parts occasionally we are going to get a bad one, its the same when you swap an engine from a scraped car, probably fine but there's a chance that its fluffed.
at least you have all of the 'expensive' parts like oil pump with you so you can low ball offer on some of the gs450h motors that have had their pumps removed.
I know its a pita, but its diy ev hot rodding here ... sometime you just have a bit of bad luck... i dont think we will ever get enough information (numbers of ev conversions) to determine if there is indeed a root cause, jamies 2nd motor seems to be fine and many other conversions seem to have not failed yet and would say just chalk it up to bad luck... we are here for they journey (experience anyway)

makes a lot of sense, this is my second convertion with the same motor, my first car works just fine with over 27k -kilomotres so farrstevens81 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:43 am here my take on the situation....
