Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
So.... After I thought that my tesla charger works, now it shows fault on the 2 out of 3 inverers that I thought were running. They were only pushing about 1.8 amps and after about 2 hours I got "fault" error on the 2 working inverters.
I am looking now for a 3.3.or 6.6kw Chinese charger on Aliexpress.
This weekend if I have time I will try my 9mm tool and if that does not work I will move to the 308 tool. it is frustrating when you spent 700-800$ on this setup.
The boys are trained on all tools, but my daughter needs to start training on the 9mm.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
Octavius convinced me to check again before I used my metric tool and found out that this AC switch went out.
Now it is charging with 4 amps I tried to go higher but the inverter contractors keep going on and off. for now is good because is a thin AC cable and it is only 120V.
at least I am finally charging the battery.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
on 120v ac if you pull more than 10amps AC, the voltage drops so low that the charger resets itself, and tries again.

Nice to see the battery charging.
Now that I know the slowness on the screen was caused by the baud rate, I need to add some info back.

If anybody can spot what config is wrong but I am not getting offthrotregen or any brakeregen when I press the brake pedal.
I just connected the wire from the brake switch and when I push the brake pedal the din_brake is ON
The settings Johu has in the Parameter video are not the same with what I see on the screen.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
I used Alibros video to create a CAN adapter? in a compact version, to work with Savvycan.
Alibro uses the bigger 3.3v Can board and I used the smaller one , so it can fit in the 3D printed box.
The small board is powered directly from the ESP 32, and the ESP32 is getting power from the computer via the USBC cable.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
I realized that I need to buy an ISA shunt. not sure how to set it up yet but it is sending out some IDs, so I guess it works.
Still cannot figure out regen braking
If anybody has any idea how to make it work please let me know.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
Can anybody help me with a config file for Tesla SDU with brake regen that is working. I have the pin15 connected to the brake light.
I keep modifying the parameters but nothing works. I was never able to see brake regen work so far.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
Per https://github.com/damienmaguire/Tesla- ... ctions.pdf
pin 15 in the brake light switch - e.g. on/off switch from the brake pedal. It's in an input to the SDU the brake pedal has been pressed, not an output to the brake light.
Can you plot your potnom vs idc? You might just be missing parameter maxregentravelhz=100 and you’ll get off throttle regen. Then with the brake input, you can have the brake regen.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
I only need brake Regen. Connected to ESP32 web gui I do not see an option to plot values. with the other board that had wifi in the motor I was able to plot.
I tried maxregentravelhz=100 and still nothing
can you upload you parameters?
Also on the esp32 when I put the ignition ON I loose connection to the inverter. I have to do all changes before the Ignition is on.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
This is what I have right now, but I feel could use improvement. Both offthrottle and brake regen work for me. Don't forget to change params per your battery pack and throttle pedal.Proton wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 1:17 am I only need brake Regen. @alexbeatle Regen works now. still do not understand why and what parameters made that happen.
I will PM you the screenshots with IDC and speed. found how to do it in the ESP 32 web GUI.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
looking at the papams it's probably the throttle setting.
Yours is set to "potmode": 0, (Pot 1 is throttle and pot 2 is regen strength preset)
Apparently throttle gets priority over regen.

You might be right . For potmode I had SingleRegen. Thank you Manny. good observation.

Re: 2008 Nissan Quest Van with Tesla SDU.
I am working on a variable controller for the PWM water pump to spin based on temperature of the water.
With the help of AI I have the code that works in Serial monitor and shows the correct temperature and even changes what should be the water pump temperature.
EXP32 code: Arduino Nano code:
I tested the code on the Arduino Nano with the water pump but I did not see any speed change.
I will try to test the ESP32 setup next weekend if I have time.
If anybody else can test this to see if it works would be appreciated.
the serial monitor shows that the code is working, so the only issue tha I can see would be something with the frequency the water pump is expecting.
Temp sensor: PATIKIL NTC Thermistors Resistors, 100Pcs 10K Ohm MF52-103
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH1D8MYQ?re ... tle_4&th=1
this is the nano setup:
PWM pin = pin 9 Temp sensor connected to 3.3.v one leg, and the other leg to A0 and GND
ON ESP32:
Temp sensor connected to 3.3.v one leg, and the other leg to GPIO36 and GND
PWM pin = GPIO18

Do you have a signal generator to test the PWM function of the pump?
