Does Firmware now support "Field Weakening" for Leaf Motors

Post by ultimate1112 »

Hi,
Currently doing an EV conversion with a 2012 Leaf Motor (EM57) ordered from Japan.
Looking to buy the both boards, but it mentions that the Rev3 doesn't support field weakening and thus is limited to 3000rpm.
We aren't using the original transmission and are directly connecting to the shaft of the motor, thus the speed will be drastically limited.

My question, Has the firmware been updated yet (v4.17.R)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, it seems that the speed isn't actually limited to 3000rpm but more like 6-7000rpm (will update the product description). Automatic field weakening is still unsupported due to the lack of a test vehicle. See thread linked below.

Hi.

Just signed up.

Let us know if you need a test vehicle, we have 3 running leaf motor/inverter with our own powertrain controller. would be happy to use one to help trial this.

Hi Mike, was away a few days. So we could give it a try. So you'd be willing to swap in a different control board into your inverters?
Mostly remote tuning is a bit hard because if the inherent delay. "Change this parameter"... next day: "changed it, this happened".
So I hope to get my own car running soon to make some progress here.

I have been bussy also. Hope to get one Leaf motor in a car also. Then we will have much faster rate of parameter settiong.

Yeah. We could support that - have a mule vehicle for our powertrain controller (vcu replacement) that we could adapt - leaf motor and 45kwh battery.

I am also ready to start test driving!!!

Boost = 900 worked better that 400 maybe boost should be even higher.

This is very exciting :) If boost 900 gives you some power thats not bad at all! I'd say values above 3000 are suspicious.
I am almost ready to join motor and transmission so will be able to test myself soon!

@Johu if you want to spend some time with one of our cars for fine tuning the software we'd be happy to host you and pay expenses kf we are able to use the system for customer projects.

Think I mentioned before that we already have a solution for controlling the stock inverter, we are just looking to add more power!

I'm also up for helping if required (and if you still need input by the time I eventually get my motor into the car...whenever that ends up being)

@Mike, also excited to see the outcome of your VCU replacement work. I'm playing around with trying to control the Leaf logic board with CAN messages at the moment, but I wouldn't trust my efforts out on the road.

Offer is there. We have quite a few projects this could work very nicely on!
